Designing a Relaxing Outdoor Living Space

 With fall on the horizon and cooler temps right around the corner, this is always the time of year that I start thinking about sprucing up my front porch or back patio. I'm so excited to actually be able to spend time outside soon and not melt! There's something about that first day of crisp fall air that has me living on the back patio once it arrives. 

One area that I always enjoy sprucing up is the front porch. We got some gently used rocking chairs a few years ago and repainted them. It saved us money and they look great! I like to swap out pillows on them for each season. I also have a little accent table in between them where I put a floral arrangement or lantern. I also recently updated our front door mat and added a buffalo plaid accent rug underneath it. It adds so much to our front porch and makes our entrance much more interesting. 

Our back patio became my quarantine project this spring. I had some old metal patio chairs I inherited from my grandparents that were rusted and the pain was peeling. I took advantage of my time at home to sand them down and spray paint them, and I am so happy with how they turned out! I added some striped cushions and achieved the French/Modern look I was going for and finally have a comfy place to sit outside. I also installed curtain rods and hung these beautiful white curtains on our patio. They changed the vibe completely! I love how elegant they look and that they can be tied back or pulled across to block the sun. Last but not least, I added a cute palm plant for some greenery and it all ties together so well! I plan on adding string lights along the curtain rods to up the cozy factor in the evenings as well. 

Another way to spruce up your backyard area is to update the flooring of your patio. Maybe you want to build a deck or update the flooring of your current deck or patio.
